LAUSD, UTLA continue negotiations

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES The LAUSD is hoping to get a commitment from United Teachers Los Angeles before the April 14 school board meeting.

Teachers are asking the LAUSD to consider furloughs instead of layoffs.

In the past, the teachers union has resisted furloughs or unpaid days off.

In a news release, LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines said, "My goal is to save as many jobs as possible, while being financially responsible during this economic crisis."
