Man stabbed to death in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, Calif. Deputies say a man, Miguel Gonzales, confronted the suspects when he spotted them tampering with a car on Birch Avenue near 116th Street just before midnight.

There was an altercation during which Gonzales was stabbed multiple times and hit with a blunt object. Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say another man came out of a nearby house to try to intervene. He got into a confrontation with the suspects and was severely beaten. He was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in extremely critical condition.

Sheriff's deputies are investigating the two crime scenes. They say they have little information about the suspects, only that the two men are Hispanic.
