SF explosion cuts power, causes evacuation

SAN FRANCISCO A /*PG&E*/ transformer exploded, causing smoke to pour out of manholes. Safety officials advised people in the O'Farrell and Polk region of San Francisco to seek shelter due to heavy smoke.

Traffic was blocked in parts of the city and at least one building in the 800 block of O'Farrell was evacuated due to smoke in the building.

The fire had been burning since about 11:40 a.m. Friday.

There were no immediate reports of injuries due to the explosion.
