Daughter speaks out about mom's slaying

PALMDALE, Calif. With all Marina Preciado has witnessed, she is a resilient 10-year-old.

"I remember her as a fun-loving mom," said Marina.

Investigators say /*Jesus "Chuy" Canales*/, fatally slashed his girlfriend 26-year-old /*Lucy Preciado*/ with a sword on a Saturday morning in July 2008. Officials say the stabbing occurred during an argument in the couple's apartment. Preciado's four young children, including Marina, were home at the time.

"And then I went and grabbed the phone and then I called. And I told them what had happened and then they came," said Marina.

Canales took off and has been on the loose ever since. /*L.A. County Sheriff*/'s investigators are renewing their push for his capture.

"We're still heavily relying on the public's assistance to help us locate Chuy Canales. There is a $10,000 reward for anybody who can get him in our custody," said Lt. Dave Dolson, L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

"I'm just hoping that they get more leads and hopefully catch him. That they can hopefully let me and my brothers be relieved and make sure that he is off the streets and behind bars," said Marina.

Marina now lives with her biological father and is going into the 5th grade. She says she has tried to remain strong with the loss of her mother.

"It was a little difficult but I got through it," said Marina.

Marina's biggest hope is that someone will come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of her mother's killer.
