Suspect arrested in O.C. car vandalism

LAKE FOREST, Calif. The window of Pouri Daneshmand's grandson's car was shot out by a BB gun around 3:30 a.m. Thursday as they slept inside their home.

"It's very dangerous, it scared me very bad," said Daneshmand.

It was just one of at least 15 cars that authorities allege Michael Scaminaci vandalized in the Lake Forest neighborhood.

"His intent this morning was to break the windows with a BB gun and then remove property," said Jim Amormino, spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities credit a good neighborhood watch program for helping catch the suspect. Residents immediately called 911 after hearing shots.

Police arrested Scaminaci just blocks away from where the crime took place.

"He had three GPS systems on him, a portable drill, a couple cameras and undisclosed amount of cash," said Amormino.

Scaminaci is facing a number of charges including vandalism and burglary.

Investigators are also looking into whether he may be connected to a crime spree last April, where someone vandalized more than 30 cars in the Foothill Ranch area.

The innocent victims were stuck with the expense and inconvenience of fixing the damage.

Authorities say the case serves as a warning not to leave any of your valuables in your car, no matter how quiet and safe a neighborhood.
