Ventura County Fire to conduct training burn

VENTURA, Calif. More than 30 firefighters will take part in the four-hour training from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

About 10 acres of dry brush will be burned in the exercise and the smoke will likely be visible in the hills around the area.

"This training will help us eliminate an area of hazardous brush," said Capt. Brendan Ripley, "But it also gives our firefighters the opportunity to train under real-life conditions, and the skills they practice during this kind of training can save lives and property during a wildfire."

The burn will also allow Ventura County to participate in a smoke property study by Airborne Fire Sampling, which will collect a smoke sample by aircraft.
