'Chipmunks' hope for box office blockbuster

LOS ANGELES "Alvin and the Chipmunks" are hoping to score a touchdown with their new movie, "Alvin the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel."

Two Christmases ago, their first adventure turned into a box office blockbuster. I asked them if their lives have changed since they've become stars of the cinema.

"Alvin still pretty much hogs the spotlight," said Simon.

"Very funny, Simon," said Alvin.

Certainly there are a lot of people who consider the Chipmunks superstars. I asked them what the most challenging aspect of being a superstar is for them.

"You mean besides putting up with Alvin?" joked Simon.

This time out, the Chipmunks meet the Chipettes, and they also sing.

The last Chipmunk movie made $217 million in North America alone, so there are high hopes for this one too.

I congratulated all three since they are now the world's first "Squeakquel."

"Thanks. The title was my idea," said Alvin.

Of course Alvin tried to take all of the credit, but Theodore and Simon had something to add.

"Squeakquels go great with buckets of popcorn," said Theodore.

"We're all about innovation," said Simon.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" is rated-PG.
