Car slams into dental office in Baldwin Park

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. Officials said a black Kia SUV lost control in the parking lot of the shopping center, crashed through the glass window into the waiting room and ended up in one of the examining rooms of the West Coast Dental at La Rica Avenue and Ramona Boulevard.

At least four people were injured in the accident just after noon Monday, including three people inside the office and the driver. All four were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries from flying glass. No one was actually hit by the car.

Authorities said a woman and a small child were inside the waiting room at the time. They said the woman saw the car coming and pulled the child away as the car slammed into the building.

"It happened around lunch time so fortunately there weren't too many people in there," said Eric Pellkofer, vice president of West Coast Dental. "As far as we know, no one was seriously hurt. There were a couple of cuts and scrapes and things like that, but no one was seriously injured."

The driver, a woman in her 50s, was alone inside the car. Police were investigating what might have caused her to lose control of her vehicle.
