The spokesman said those hours could be completed through Penn's earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti. He has made a major humanitarian push in Haiti since the country was devastated by an earthquake in January, co-founding the Jenkins-Penn Haiti Relief Organization.
Penn was also ordered to undergo 36 hours of anger management counseling.
A restitution hearing for the photographer, Jordan Dawes, will be held July 8. Dawes has sued Penn in civil court. In Wednesday's ruling, Penn was ordered to stay 100 yards away from the photographer.
Though Penn has had run-ins with photographers and the law in the past, most of those cases were in the 1980s and he has avoided incidents in recent years.
