Family of black bears spotted in San Dimas

SAN DIMAS, Calif. The bears were spotted along the 1800 block of Fernridge Drive about 9 p.m.

One area resident who saw the bears said the cubs are no more than a foot long.

Sheriff's deputies called for animal control officers, but the bear family vanished before they showed up.

One resident says he recognized the mother bear from earlier visits. And another resident said the mother bear lunged at a neighborhood cat.

Sheriff's deputies say the bears seem to be drawn into the neighborhood from the nearby /*Angeles National Forest*/ on trash day.
