3 pipe bombs found during search of O.C. home

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. One of the devices was detonated just after 5 a.m., setting off car alarms in the area.

The incident began when police were exercising a search warrant for drugs at a home in the 6500 block of /*Chapman Avenue*/ at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. They came across suspicious devices and immediately called the bomb squad and closed down the street.

Some homes were evacuated as a precaution, while residents of other homes were told to stay indoors. Authorities believe they have found all the devices, but they are still conducting a search.

Police said several marijuana plants were found inside the home, along with chemicals and other materials commonly used in the production of methamphetamine. Police also found a handgun, numerous boxes of ammunition and an improvised hand grenade

Several people were taken into custody.

The intersection of Chapman Avenue and Springdale was closed for several hours during the investigation.
