Woman rescued from near drowning in MA flood

SOMERVILLE, Mass. Christine Broderick, who can't swim, said she thought she would die Saturday as flash floods pushed water levels to nearly the top of an underpass in Somerville, Mass.

A state trooper and an off-duty firefighter who had just come from buying groceries helped pull her to safety.

"They had me on a rope and they pulled me out. He saved my life, both of them," said Broderick.

Broderick and other drivers got out safely.

Five cars were completely submerged in the water that was nearly 18 feet deep in some areas.

Saturday, a cloudburst dumped nearly 3 inches of rain on the Boston area in nearly an hour.
