Man arrested for assaulting ice cream vendor

VENTURA, Calif. The victim, an Oxnard resident whose name was not released, told police he was attacked by two men who approached his ice cream cart and asked him for ice cream. As he reached into the cart, he said the two suspects attacked him. The victim managed to run away and the suspects allegedly took ice cream from the cart then left in and left in an SUV, police said.

Based on the victim's account of the incident, police tracked the SUV to the corner of Saranac Street and Clay Avenue, where they arrested Nelson. The second suspect managed to run away.

Nelson was taken into custody and booked at the Ventura County jail.

The victim received minor injuries and was treated on-scene by fire and paramedics, police said.
