Pickup truck plunges into Victorville house

VICTORVILLE, Calif. They were fast asleep when a pickup truck came crashing into their house.

They both received moderate to severe injuries and were rushed to area hospitals.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department says about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, a pickup truck veered off of Interstate 15. It crashed through a chain link fence along the freeway, then crossed Mariposa Road, hitting a wooden fence and a parked car before slamming into the bedroom of the two-story home.

Firefighters searched the house and found the two victims upstairs. The elderly woman was airlifted to a hospital in Colton, while the son was taken to a hospital in Loma Linda. The driver suffered minor injuries and was rushed to the same hospital in Colton for treatment. He had to be extricated from the truck.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Meantime, the house has since been shored up to prevent any structural collapse.
