The officer hit the rear of the van, flew 30 feet into the air, and landed in the street. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The van's driver stayed at the scene.
The officer's name has not been released.

TORRANCE, Calif. The officer was heading west on /*Redondo Beach*/ Boulevard just after 7 a.m. Thursday when the van apparently turned left in front of him near Yukon Avenue.
