The footlights are shining again at the Pasadena Playhouse as the theater tries to rebound from its Chapter 11 filing earlier this year. The playhouse is kicking off the season with "FDR," a one-man show starring Ed Asner as the former president.

In November, singer and actress Leslie Uggams will star in her autobiographical show, "Uptown Downtown."

The playhouse has scheduled a three-production season that it hopes will fill seats and attract subscribers.

Insufficient fundraising due to the stalled economy contributed to the theater's May bankruptcy filing.

"It's been a tough, difficult time," said playhouse artistic director Sheldon Epps, who says he's feeling very confident about the theater's future.
