Betty White named honorary forest ranger

WASHINGTON Tuesday in Washington, D.C., White was made an honorary forest ranger by the U.S. Forest Service.

The 88-year-old actress is a longtime animal rights supporter and also a nature lover.

"Oh, I wanted to be a forest ranger so much - first thing I ever wanted to be. But girls back then couldn't be forest rangers," White said.

In fact, today, women make up 38 percent of the Forest Service's work force.
