Man fires gun while driving drunk in Oxnard

SOMIS, Calif. Around 6 p.m., /*California Highway Patrol*/ officers received a report about a possibly drunk driver who was driving on the 118 Freeway in Somis near Walnut Road. The caller said the motorist was driving erratically and had fired a gunshot at another car.

/*CHP*/ officers located the vehicle and pulled it over on Vineyard Avenue and Heather Street in /*Oxnard*/ with assistance from /*Ventura County Sheriff's Department*/ deputies.

Authorities identified the driver as 43-year-old Albert Rojas of Oxnard. They found a concealed handgun, drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of methamphetamine in the car. Police also found Rojas' 13-year-old son in the car with him.

The driver Rojas allegedly fired his gun at positively identified Rojas as the shooter.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Rojas for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of narcotics and child endangerment.

No one was injured during the incident, and police said the incident did not appear to be gang related.
