OC neighbor attacks man's noisy dog with rake

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. "I just couldn't believe somebody would do something like this to a dog," said Mission Viejo resident William Daly, whose dog was attacked.

Daly's German Shepherd, named "Honey," has stitches on her head, scars all over her body and a swollen eye after a vicious attack.

"He just says, 'I'm going to kill you and I'm going to kill your dog,'" said neighbor Phillip Delabio.

Delabio says he saw Michael Stuart Patterson on a mission. Patterson was arrested for the attack.

So who is Michael Patterson? Neighbors say he rented a room in a house behind two doors down from William Daly.

Neighbor Bob Mills says it was clear what set off Patterson.

"Bill's dog, when it barks all the time, is a nuisance. It's a barker. But we all joke about it, because the dog barks all the time, but this guy just flipped out," said Mills.

Neighbors say that Patterson let himself in, grabbed a rake and began to beat Honey.

"From the looks of it, looks like about maybe 10 swings," said Daly.

"Get the rake and do it to the guy? I don't know. Payback," said Karolynn Archer, Alicia Pet Care.

Honey is lucky to be alive after quick work by the veterinarian.

Patterson is expected to be arraigned Thursday. He was being held on $50,000 bail.
