Some had lined up since Saturday sleeping on the sidewalk.
Ramona Gibson says the giveaway will help her prepare a good meal for her family.
"If it had not been for them, I would be struggling to fix Thanksgiving dinner this year," Gibson said.
This is the 24th year that Jackson Limousine has given away food on Thanksgiving.
"We started off just feeding hundreds to now in the thousands," said organizer Fatty Jackson.
Organizers said they expect to give away 10,000 turkeys and lots more food Tuesday.
"It seems like a large number, but when you think about the large number of people who really need it, we're not really even scratching the surface," Jackson said.
In addition to turkeys, volunteers said they'll be giving away carrots, celery, green onions, cucumbers and other food.
