Salma Hayek says she was illegal immigrant

LOS ANGELES The Mexican actress talked about her early career with Spain's V magazine.

Hayek, 44, moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to study acting and said she was an illegal immigrant for a small period of time.

She also said she had to endure racial discrimination, saying it was inconceivable to American producers and directors that a Mexican woman could have a lead role.

Hayek is now a naturalized U.S. citizen
