And while the story is great, it was the chance to work with his old friend Jack Black that lured Segel to Lilliput.
"He's the best, he's the sweetest guy ever. He gave me my first writing job when I was 19 years old. He's been a mentor to me ever since. It is a thrill to finally get to be on screen with him," Segel said.
Segel understands it is more than a bit ironic that he plays a tiny Liliputian when in real life, he stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall.
"We tried to make that a joke, actually. When we're all so small it becomes like a millimeter, you know what I mean. You can't tell I'm taller than any of them. But I always thought that would've been a really funny joke," said Segel.
While he hopes for big laughs with "Gulliver's Travels," Segel is now shooting the new "Muppet" movie. He stars in that film and also wrote the script.
"We're about a month into production now and it couldn't be going better. Our cast is amazing. It's myself, Amy Adams and Chris Cooper. Jack's doing a little cameo," said Segel. "I called in some favors, and hopefully it'll be great."
"The Muppets" will be in theatres next /*Thanksgiving*/.
