R&B singer Teena Marie dead at 54

Teena Marie, who was signed to Motown at age 19 and developed a lasting legacy with hits like "Lovergirl" and "Fire and Desire" with mentor Rick James, has died. She was 54.

She was discovered dead inside her home by her daughter, Marie's manager Mike Gardner told CNN.

Born Marie Christine Brockert, Marie's was signed to the Motown label in 1979 at age 19. She released 13 studio albums.

Marie, a Santa Monica native who went to Venice High School, had toured in recent years after overcoming an addiction to prescription drugs.
