Ventura man jacks car with his 3-yr-old child

VENTURA, Calif. The rightful owner of the car, 27-year-old Joe Hollis of Ventura, called police and alerted them of the carjacking. Hollis told police that the thief was in the area of Seton Hall Avenue and Loma Vista Road.

Ventura and Oxnard police tracked the suspect down as he sped through the area of Hill Street and Telegraph road.

The suspect, 29-year-old Jay Carter of Ventura, was ultimately apprehended near the intersection of Petit Avenue and Darling Road.

Officers found that Carter's 3-year-old child was in the stolen vehicle with him. They also found a loaded firearm in the car.

When officers searched Carter's home, they also found stolen property from two car thefts that occurred in the city of Ventura recently.

Carter was booked for auto burglary, felony child endangerment, felon in possession of loaded firearm, possessing a firearm in a vehicle and possessing burglary tools.
