Long Beach Unified to discuss teacher layoffs

February 1, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
The Long Beach Unified School District is set to discuss a plan that could mean layoffs for more than 600 employees, most of them teachers.

A decision, however, is not expected until the Feb. 15.

The district is facing a massive budget deficit and needs to reduce spending by about $155 million.

Also, the district is considering cuts to services and programs, as well as having elementary schools with low enrollment share principals.
