The LAPD has completely eliminated its historic backlog of unused sexual assault evidence.

The department came under intense pressure when it was revealed that thousands of rape kits had never been tested. In 2008, there were more than 6,000 untested kits.

Federal grants have now helped whittle that number all the way down to zero. Last year alone, the testing led to the arrests of nearly 250 sexual assault suspects.
