Fight between IE neighbors leads to stabbing

A fist fight between neighbors in Apple Valley turned escalated in violence when one slashed the other with a knife.

Authorities said the fight between Matthew Rick and John Huffmeier broke out shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday in the 18000 block of Otomian Road.

During the fight, Rick pulled out a folding pocket knife and stabbed Huffmeier. At that point, the two turned away from their brawl and went back into their respective homes.

Huffmeier was stabbed twice in the abdomen and once in the leg. He was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

Rick suffered a broken nose, broken left arm, head contusions and other facial injuries. He was treated at an area hospital and later booked at West Valley Detencion Center for attempted murder charges.

Rick's bail was set at $1 million.

Authorities said alcohol played a role in the fight.
