China sends pandas to Japan as peace envoys

SICHUAN PROVINCE, China

The communist nation is sending Japan, hoping the gesture will improve relations between the two countries.

Japan is renting the male and female for about $950,000 a year.

That money will help China rebuild a panda sanctuary that was nearly destroyed in a 2008 earthquake.

Once the pandas pass their health checks, they will make their public debut in March.
