Jimmy Kimmel prepares for post-Oscar special

LOS ANGELES

The red carpet was also in place, it was just covered in heavy white plastic, and workers were making sure there's plenty of plastic in place for the expected rain.

In fact, workers were making sure of a lot of things as the countdown to the Oscars continues to tick away.

Jimmy Kimmel and his staff have been working for weeks on their late night post-Oscar special.

The yearly special is a golden opportunity for Kimmel.

"We're very fortunate to get Tom Hanks," Kimmel said.

What was the pitch to get Hanks on the show?

"Please, Tom Hanks," Kimmel said. "Please, please, please, God, please do our show."

So just how special will the show be?

"There are going to be at least two bits on the show that people are going to spread around virally afterward," Kimmel said.

While things start in the afternoon on the red carpet, he hopes you'll stay with him for a little late-night fun.

"Don't wait until your grandma e-mails this to you," Kimmel said. "Watch it live, stay up. For God's sake, it's not that late. What are you? Six years old? You should be ashamed of yourself."
