The Los Angeles Police Department will seek felony charges against a school police officer whose fake shooting triggered a massive manhunt in the San Fernando Valley.

Police detectives have handed prosecutors the results of their investigation in the case of Los Angeles Unified School District officer Jeff Stenroos.

In January, Stenroos claimed he'd been shot near El Camino Real High School, touching off a widespread search and school lockdown.

Stenroos later admitted he made up the story. Prosecutors aren't expected to make a decision on charging Stenroos for several more days.
