Concerns over Diablo Canyon nuclear plant

San Luis Obispo County supervisors say more earthquake studies must be done at the nuclear power plant near Avila Beach.

More earthquake safety studies need be done at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant near Avila Beach, according to San Luis Obispo County supervisors.

The supervisors want the plant operator, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, to suspend its license renewal request until seismic studies are completed.

One supervisor says the deadly Japan earthquake and tsunami has led to intense public concern and mistrust of PG&E's assurances that the twin-reactor plant is safe.

PG&E revealed that one of the reactors was shut down for repairs last weekend.
