Cop arrested for sex with underage relative

Former youth services police detective Erik Alvarez was arrested and charged with unlawful sex with a minor, a relative.

A former Long Beach Police detective with the department's Youth Services Section was arrested and charged with unlawful sex with a minor. The minor is allegedly related to the detective.

Erik Alvarez, 42, pleaded not guilty Monday to three felony counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

Alvarez allegedly began molesting the girl when she was 15 in 2009 and continued into 2011.

Alvarez was arrested Wednesday, Apr. 27, by Upland police. He remained in jail on $250,000 bail.

Long Beach Police fired Alvarez.

Alvarez is scheduled to appear in San Bernardino County court Thursday.
