Indio resident David Armenta, 30, was charged with two felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and a felony count of oral copulation with a minor. The minor is a 17-year-old female student.
Indio Police began an investigation of Armenta after receiving a report in February he had engaged in sex with the student over three days in January.
La Quinta High officials placed Armenta on unpaid leave after they were informed of the investigation. His teaching credential was suspended by the state pending the outcome of the investigation.
Armenta is scheduled to reappear in court on June 15.
