Thousands hit Griffith Park for River Ride

GLENDALE, Calif.

The ride is open to all ages and all skill levels. The event consists of several different lengths including the 100-mile ride, 70-mile ride, 50-mile ride and 36-mile ride.

Mayor /*Antonio Villaraigosa*/ was slated to join in on the festivities, as well as actor Austin Nichols from TV's "One Tree Hill," who served as the master of ceremonies.

"L.A. is such a car-driven city, and it's great to see so many people - I think people are hungry to get on their bikes and get out of their cars and get off of oil and save money and save the environment," said Nichols.

The River Ride also includes live music, a raffle and an array of food stands.

All proceeds from the event will go toward making Los Angeles County a more bike-friendly city. Currently, there are 400 miles of bike paths in L.A., and the goal is to expand that number to 1,600 miles.
