Los Angeles County firefighters responded to a call at 6:15 a.m. about some burning bushes in the 7200 block of Moody Street when they found the charred remains.
The body was that of an Asian man in his 50s or 60s. Authorities said they found a gasoline can near the body.
The La Palma Police Department was handling the investigation. They have not ruled out the possibility of suicide but are treating the case as a homicide.
Officials have yet to identify the body.
