LAPD: Bryan Stow beating case reassigned

LOS ANGELES

The department says it is handing over the investigation to the Robbery-Homicide Division. Until now, detectives from the Northeast Division had been in charge.

The case is still focusing on Giovanni Ramirez as the prime suspect in the beating, but defense attorneys allege Ramirez was babysitting his daughter the day of the attack.

Ramirez was arrested nearly seven weeks after Stow was severely beaten after the season opener on March 31.

Ramirez remains jailed in downtown Los Angeles. He has not been officially charged in the case and is being held on various parole violations.

The LAPD says it is not unusual for Robbery-Homicide to take over complex and high-profile cases.

Police have not yet identified a second attacker or a woman suspected of driving away from the scene with the two suspects. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call (877) LAPD-24-7.
