IE kidnapper pulls teen into car, stopped by family, neighbors

MENTONE, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

According to the /*San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department*/, Yucaipa deputies received a report of a kidnapping at approximately 12:54 a.m. Wednesday.

Yucaipa resident Dewayne King, 49, was arrested on felony charges of kidnapping, assault with injury and felony child endangerment.

King allegedly drove to a residence on the 2100 block of Mentone Boulevard in Mentone to visit a family member. He stayed in the driver's seat of his vehicle while he greeted a 12-year-old female family member standing next it.

King allegedly asked for a hug, and as the girl complied, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his vehicle and proceeded to drive away.

The victim and her mother, standing outside, began screaming. The victim's older brother and neighbors heard the cries and ran to intercept King. They managed to fight with King and extract the girl from the vehicle.

King attempted to drive away from the scene but was stopped by responding sheriff's deputies.

Several people who stopped King were treated by medical personnel on scene for injuries sustained in the altercation.
