A jury received the case of the murder trial of Brandon McInerney Friday morning. McInerney is accused of fatally shooting teen classmate Lawrence King in an Oxnard classroom in 2008.

Closing arguments were completed Thursday.

McInerney is charged with first-degree murder with a hate-crime enhancement. Prosecutors allege McInerney shot King because King was gay, and allege McInerney is a budding white supremacist.

The defense contends that King, 15, had made advances at McInerney, and that McInerney had suffered abuse as a child and was made uncomfortable by King's advances.

King was shot in the head in a classroom at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard.

McInerney, now 17, was 14 at the time of the shooting. He is being tried as an adult.
