The officer was on his way to work on Friday shortly after 11 a.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle near the 110 Freeway interchange.
A big rig driver couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting the officer.
He was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:30 p.m.
The LAPD said the officer's name will not be released until his family has been notified.
