Authorities said Aaron Bassler was shot and killed Saturday after they tracked him down in a Northern California redwood forest near Fort Bragg.
Bassler was suspected of killing a Fort Bragg city councilman and a Mendocino County Land Trust officer.
Dozens of local and federal authorities had been searching for Bassler, including 27 SWAT team members from Sacramento.
