Sam Schmid, 21, was believed to be brain dead after he was critically injured in a car crash three months ago.
But as hospital officials began end of life care, Schmid started to respond, holding up two fingers on command.
"It's a miracle, continuing, where I was to where I am now. I know I've made a lot of progression," Schmid said.
Schmid now moves around with the aid of a walker and his speech continues to improve.
He's even hoping to get a day pass from the hospital so he can spend the holidays with his large extended family.
Doctors say he will likely have a complete recovery.
