Cerritos Corporate Yard running on new solar power system

CERRITOS, Calif.

Saturday, Mayor Carol Chen activated the two new photovoltaic systems with a ceremonial switch.

The systems have been installed on top of the water reservoirs at the yard. The total production from the systems is around 350,000 kilowatt hours per year.

"Opportunity for us to show the community that we the city have for over 40 years, utilizing energy conservation as a method to conserve," said Chen.

The first project cost more than $500,000 and was paid for by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The second project cost more than $700,000 and was partially paid for by a federal grant.
