Arctic falcon spotted near Lake Perris

PERRIS, Calif.

Throngs of bird watchers have descended on the San Jacinto Wildlife Area to see the gyrfalcon, the world's largest falcon.

Normally, it's only found in places like Alaska or Iceland. No one really knows what it's doing in Southern California.

Mark Chappell, a University of California, Riverside biologist who snapped photos of the birds, said he couldn't believe his eyes when he spotted the incredible creature.
