Norwalk barricade prompts school lockdowns

March 5, 2012 12:00:00 AM PST
Two elementary schools in Norwalk were locked down due to a possible barricade situation on Dumont Avenue Monday afternoon.

Glazier Elementary School, located at 10932 E. Excelsior Dr., and Lampton Elementary School at 14716 Elmcroft Ave., were locked down as a precaution.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. SWAT team was summoned to a residence on the 14500 block of Dumont Avenue. A suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon was reportedly barricaded there.

The incident began at about 1:45 p.m. when the suspect allegedly ran from deputies into the residence.

The suspect surrendered at 3 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.

Both schools' lockdowns were lifted after 3 p.m.
