San Jacinto teen attacks grandma w/ shovel

SAN JACINTO, Calif.

San Jacinto police received reports of trouble at about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 1800 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue. When officers arrived, they found an elderly woman with a head injury. She received first aid while officers began searching the area for the suspect.

The woman told police that she was sleeping on the sofa when she was awakened by the sound of someone kicking in her back door. The victim's grandson, who is listed as a runaway, barged into the home and began arguing with her.

When the woman tried to call 911, the boy struck her in the head from behind with a shovel. Neighbors came to her aid and called police, but the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where her injury was determined to be non life-threatening.
