A proposal for San Bernardino County restaurants to signify whether they check employee immigration status on their health-inspection placards was rejected Tuesday.

The County Board of Supervisors proposed that restaurants use the E-Verify system, a federal database to check a person's immigration status.

The restaurant health inspection placard that displays an A, B or C grade would also display a green background for those who screen their employees' immigration status. A red background would be displayed for those that do not.

Tuesday afternoon the proposal was rejected.
