Gas pump nozzle change by EPA may cut prices in the long run

LOS ANGELES

The Environmental Protection Agency announced that it intends to phase out the rubber boots on gas pump handles, which are used to capture harmful gasoline vapors.

The EPA says the pumps are redundant because more than 70 percent of all cars today are equipped with vapor-capturing systems.

The move is expected to save consumers and businesses almost $6 billion in the next five years.
