Venice flooding caused by water-main break

VENICE, Calif.

Authorities responded to the incident in the 200 block of Carroll Court Walk at about 12:20 p.m. L.A. Department of Water and Power crews were able to shut down the broken main, but not until after the water had flooded the area for about an hour.

LAFD Batallion Chief Michael Bowman said power had to be shut off in the area because the water got about three inches from an electrical panel. Power was expected to be restored by 6 p.m. Friday.

Water restoration to the neighborhood was expected to to happen between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday as crews worked to repair the section of broken pipe.

As of Friday afternoon, there were four structures with damage that the DWP knew of. Two were significantly flooded, one of which was a parking structure, according to Bowman.
