In addition to telephone service, text messages, emails and Web service will also be available. However, the service will only be available to six users at any time.
Virgin Atlantic coupled the announcement with the unveiling of a new aircraft, the Airbus A330-300, which features an "Upper Class" cabin with connectivity for smartphones, USBs and tablet computers.
The service is only available on the new aircraft, but the company expects to have it ready on other Virgin Atlantic planes by the end of 2012.
