Firefighters were called to the Westwood Hills Christian Church at around 9:15 p.m. Friday. When they arrived at the church, which is located on the 10800 block of Le Conte Avenue, they found furnishings set on fire inside the sanctuary.
The House of Worship Arson Taskforce was called in to investigate, which is routine procedure anytime there is a fire at a church.
Authorities say the blaze was an act of arson. The flames were put out quickly by firefighters, but authorities say the blaze caused about $5,000 in damage to the church. No injuries were reported.
Whoever set the fire inside the sanctuary is still on the run. If you have any information that can help arson investigators, you're urged to contact the Los Angeles Fire Department's Arson/Counter-Terrorism section at (213) 893-9800.
